Health Watch

In 1994 the six UK Cairn Terrier Clubs agreed to the setting up of the Cairn Terrier Health Watch, the aim being to identify problems in the breed and if necessary obtain advice from a specialist about prevention if a genetic factor is involved.

Information given to the Health Watch is confdential. Our vet Ruth Wadman Taylor, is willing to give help and guidance wherever possible. Opinions on genetic and hereditary matters require the expertise of a trained geneticist. This would be very expensive and would not be undertaken lightly. At present not enough data has been collected to approach a professional but progress is being made. Collecting information is the only way that it is possible to know whether a problem is widespread or a 'one-off'.

More about Cairn Terrier Health Watch

Listed are problems already brought to the attention of Cairn Terrier Health Watch, mainly it must be said by pet owners who have supplied vet diagnoses and provided pedigrees of affected animals. (Sometimes Health Watch has suggested a specialist opinion.) Without this information we do not regard the condition as substantiated.
